In a significant boost to the cultural landscape of Washington state, ArtsFund and Allen Family Philanthropies have jointly announced an unprecedented $10 million in funding, distributed among 930 diverse arts and culture organizations through their Community Accelerator Grant program. This landmark investment marks the largest cohort of awardees in the program’s history, underscoring a profound commitment to fostering creativity and community enrichment across the region.

This recent allocation culminates the third successful year of the Community Accelerator Grant program, bringing its total unrestricted funding infusion into Washington’s arts and culture sector to an impressive $30 million. Building upon a robust $10 million pilot investment in 2023 and a subsequent $10 million in 2024, the initiative has consistently grown, demonstrating its vital role in sustaining a thriving arts ecosystem.

Administered efficiently by ArtsFund and wholly funded by Allen Family Philanthropies, this latest round saw individual grants ranging from $2,500 to $25,000. These crucial funds are directly responsive to the ongoing and evolving needs of local arts organizations, providing flexible financial support that empowers them to continue their essential work without restrictive parameters.

Michael Greer, President and CEO of ArtsFund, emphasized the broad impact of this collaborative effort, stating, “Across the three years of this successful partnership, we have witnessed the incredible breadth and depth of the arts across Washington.” He highlighted how access to well-resourced arts organizations enriches livability for all Washingtonians, fostering economic opportunities, social cohesion, and vital community connections.

A remarkable aspect of this year’s distribution is its unparalleled reach, with grants awarded to every eligible organization that applied. For the first time in the program’s history, the funding extends to all 39 counties throughout Washington, ensuring that diverse communities, including rural areas and federally recognized tribes, benefit from this substantial investment in community arts.

Lara Littlefield, Executive Director of Allen Family Philanthropies, underscored the program’s vital role, noting, “The incredible reach of this program into every corner of our state shows just how much this type of flexible funding is needed to bolster Washington’s rich and diverse arts and culture sector.” She celebrated the community-driven model now supporting nearly a thousand organizations.

The program also saw increased participation from across the state, with 612 grantees in northwest Washington, 160 in the southwest, 87 in Eastern Washington, and 51 in Central Washington. Significantly, 12 out of 29 (41%) of Washington’s federally recognized tribes received nonprofit funding, alongside 18.5 percent of grantees located in rural counties, reflecting a continued focus on communities historically lacking access to such opportunities. This demonstrates the commitment of ArtsFund and Allen Family Philanthropies to equitable distribution.

The high reapplication rate, with 91 percent of 2024 grantees seeking renewed support, speaks volumes about the program’s success and its perceived value within the Washington culture community. This sustained engagement ensures ongoing support for critical arts grants, reinforcing the long-term impact of these philanthropic efforts.
