The community of Becket and the wider Berkshires region remember Milton Edward “Ed” Arnold, who peacefully passed away on August 19, 2025, at the age of 69. Surrounded by his loving family, Ed concluded a courageous battle with cancer, leaving behind a legacy defined by adventure, enduring friendships, and a deep affection for the natural beauty of his adopted home. His life story serves as a vibrant testament to passion and perseverance.

Born on March 7, 1956, in Tampa, Florida, Ed’s early years set the stage for a life rich with experiences. In 1967, a significant move brought him and his family to Sandisfield, Massachusetts, a transition that would profoundly shape his future. It was in this picturesque Berkshire town that he cultivated lifelong friendships and developed an unbreakable bond with the region’s unique charm and vibrant community spirit.

Ed lived a life marked by an insatiable thirst for adventure and a dedication to hard work. His passions were distinctly characterized by “all things that had an engine,” reflecting a spirit that constantly sought motion and excitement. Whether it was the thrill of planes soaring through the sky, the freedom of motorcycles on the open road, the power of trucking, or the adrenaline of race cars, Ed embraced every facet of mechanical ingenuity with enthusiasm.

Central to Ed’s world was his cherished family. He is survived by his two devoted sons: Bryan Arnold and his wife Kate, residing in Becket, and Jordan Arnold and his wife Meghann, who live in Otis. The joy and pride he found in his family were further exemplified by his adored grandsons, Jackson and Cameron, who brought immense light into his later years.

Ed also leaves behind his steadfast companion, Claire Romeo, whose presence brought comfort and companionship throughout his life. He maintained a friendship with Elaine Arnold, the mother of his children, a testament to enduring bonds. His sister, Betsy Arnold, along with her husband Jeff, and numerous nieces and nephews, will also fondly remember him, carrying forward his vibrant spirit.

Beyond his immediate family, Ed’s life was enriched by profound friendships. He shared an extraordinary bond with Mark “Mac” McDermott of Canaan, Connecticut, his best friend for over 50 years, a testament to loyalty and shared memories. Additionally, he held a deep respect and camaraderie with his boss and dear friend, Gary O’Brien of Lee, showcasing the meaningful connections he forged in both his personal and professional spheres.

To honor Ed’s memory and bid a final farewell, a graveside service will be conducted on Friday, August 29, at 11 a.m. The ceremony will take place at the serene Sandisfield Center Cemetery, located on Route 57 in Sandisfield, where Pastor Janet McKinstry will officiate, offering words of comfort and remembrance to those gathered.

Following the graveside service, friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life, designed to joyfully commemorate Ed’s remarkable journey. This gathering will be held at the Izaak Walton Field, situated on Tannery Road in Otis, providing an opportunity for all who knew and loved him to share stories, memories, and celebrate a life truly well-lived in the heart of the Berkshires.
