Deion Sanders, the celebrated head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes Football program, has officially unveiled Kaidon Salter as the team’s starting quarterback for the highly anticipated NCAA Football 2025 season. This pivotal announcement sets the stage for a new era in Boulder, with Salter stepping into one of college football’s most scrutinized roles under the guidance of Coach Prime.

Salter arrives in Colorado with significant expectations, tasked with following the impressive legacy of Shedeur Sanders. The former Colorado Buffaloes Quarterback not only secured the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award but was also a fifth-round selection in the 2025 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns, having concluded his 2024 collegiate season with an exceptional 4,134 passing yards, 37 touchdowns, and only 10 interceptions.

Before joining the Buffaloes, Kaidon Salter honed his skills for four seasons at Liberty University, where he led the Flames to a commendable 8-4 record in 2024. His Liberty Flames Transfer brings a proven track record, including 1,886 passing yards, 15 touchdowns, and six interceptions last season, complemented by 587 rushing yards and an additional seven scores, showcasing his formidable dual-threat capabilities.

Explaining his decision, Deion Sanders emphasized Salter’s invaluable experience and versatility. ‘I like that he has experience,’ Sanders stated. ‘I like that he’s a dual-threat. He throws a good football as well as he can make the necessary plays that we’re gonna need to be made and the timing of that.’ This endorsement highlights the strategic thinking behind the selection for the upcoming College Football News cycle.

Coach Prime expressed strong confidence in Salter’s ability to perform under pressure, a critical attribute for any Kaidon Salter Quarterback. ‘I don’t think the stage will too big for him or the lights will be too bright. I think he can handle it and he’s very versatile. He’s gonna impose problems to opposing defenses,’ Sanders affirmed, pointing to Salter’s potential to disrupt opponents.

Salter’s ascent to the starting position came after a competitive battle, notably against highly-touted incoming freshman four-star quarterback JuJu Lewis. While JuJu Lewis is recognized as a future cornerstone, poised to potentially take the reins around 2027, Deion Sanders underscored Salter’s immediate readiness. ‘We definitely want to continue to develop JuJu, but Kaidon is unbelievable,’ Sanders remarked at Big 12 Media Day.

‘Kaidon is off the chain. He’s been there, done that, he can get the job done. I wouldn’t have brought him here if I didn’t trust him,’ Sanders concluded, reinforcing his belief in Salter’s capabilities. Salter’s career includes three starts against Power-Four competition (Vanderbilt and Arkansas in 2022, and Bowling Green in 2023), where he averaged 167 passing yards per game, with a combined total of three touchdowns and three interceptions.

The Colorado Buffaloes Football team is set to kick off its NCAA Football 2025 campaign at home against Georgia Tech on August 29th, with an 8:00 PM ESPN broadcast. Under Coach Prime, the Buffaloes boast an undefeated 2-0 record in season openers, a trend they aim to continue with Kaidon Salter at the helm, promising an exciting start to the new college football season.
