A Florida Chuck E. Cheese outlet became the scene of a truly bizarre incident recently, as police officers apprehended a costumed employee on suspicion of credit card theft, leaving both children and adults in a state of understandable confusion and concern. The surreal event, captured on bodycam video, quickly went viral, highlighting the unusual circumstances of the arrest.

The footage revealed officers interrupting the beloved pizza-loving rodent’s interaction with young customers, who had gathered for a typical day of fun and games. What began as a lively children’s entertainment experience swiftly transformed into a perplexing police operation, catching everyone present off guard.

Officer Jarrett Cruz was heard addressing the suspect, still in full Chuck E. Cheese regalia, with an almost comical yet firm tone, stating, “Chuck E.’s a little bit busy ma’am” to an adult onlooker, before turning to the mouse himself with a direct command: “Chuck E., come with me, Chuck E.” This exchange underscored the absurdity of the situation.

Near the vibrant “Cars” and “SpongeBob SquarePants” arcade games, police engaged in a brief struggle to handcuff the man inside the mouse suit, later identified as 41-year-old Jermel Jones. Jones was subsequently accused of stealing and fraudulently using a customer’s credit card, turning a family entertainment venue into a crime scene.

During the apprehension, Officer Cruz repeatedly instructed the suspect, “Chuck E. stop resisting, stop resisting. You’re being detained, stop resisting. Let it go, let it go. Do not cause a scene here, sir.” The commands to the costumed character added a layer of surrealism to the tense moments of the arrest.

As officers escorted the now-detained “Chuck E.” out of the restaurant, a woman was seen attempting to shield her child from witnessing the potentially traumatizing spectacle. Her concern, echoed by other parents, highlighted the jarring impact of a police arrest involving a children’s mascot on innocent bystanders.

One agitated parent confronted an officer, drawing a comparison by asking, “Would y’all put Mickey Mouse in handcuffs?” The officer, maintaining professionalism amidst the unusual circumstances, simply responded, “Have a good night,” before walking away, avoiding further engagement on the hypothetical.

Jones was ultimately placed in a police car, where officers assisted him in removing the elaborate costume, including his mouse head, furry hands, oversized shoes, and suspendered pants. Despite the clear evidence presented by the authorities, Jones reportedly denied any wrongdoing in the bizarre credit card fraud arrest.
