Boston residents, are you noticing a change? A former migrant shelter director is sounding the alarm, claiming the city is in “great decline” with a rise in various crimes. Despite these warnings, local leaders are pushing back against federal intervention. What do you think is truly happening in Boston?
Boston is reportedly facing a significant downturn, marked by a disturbing rise in Boston crime rates, according to a former migrant shelter director who is now a whistleblower.
Jon Fetherston, who previously managed a state-funded migrant shelter in Marlborough, Massachusetts, has raised serious concerns about the deteriorating safety within Boston neighborhoods. His insights stem from firsthand experience within the migrant crisis shelter system, where he initially blew the whistle on various issues, contributing to this whistleblower report.
Fetherston explicitly states that since Democratic Governor Maura Healey assumed office, there has been a noticeable uptick across several crime categories, including domestic violence, sex trafficking, shoplifting, and even an increase in auto accidents, painting a grim picture of the city’s current state of urban decline.
This alarming assessment emerges as Democratic leaders, particularly Governor Healey and Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, firmly resist federal intervention to address the rising crime. They have publicly criticized any potential federal crackdown, with Healey dismissing it as “political theater” amidst ongoing Massachusetts politics.
“Your eyes tell you all you need to know. Crime is on an uptick in Boston. Things are not good in Boston,” Fetherston asserted, lamenting the city’s perceived decline from its former greatness, now plagued by visible open drug use and spiking Boston crime rates.
Mayor Wu, aligning with her Democratic counterparts, has also rejected the Trump administration’s proposals to combat illegal immigrant crime or deploy the National Guard to Boston, maintaining a stance against federal intervention in local law enforcement matters, a key aspect of Massachusetts politics.
In response to the resistance from Boston’s Democratic leadership, White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson sharply criticized their priorities. Jackson suggested that if these leaders focused on tackling Boston crime within their own cities rather than engaging in “publicity stunts” against the President, their communities would experience greater safety during the current migrant crisis.
Jackson further emphasized that crime should not be a partisan issue, but accused Democrats suffering from “Trump Derangement Syndrome” of politicizing the matter. She urged them to consider the success of fellow Democrat Mayor Muriel Bowser in Washington D.C., who collaborated with the Trump administration to significantly reduce violent crime.
