A significant development in York’s retail landscape has seen global homeware giant IKEA officially launch its innovative Plan and Order Point. This new concept store, strategically located in the bustling Clifton Moor retail park, marks a pivotal moment for local shoppers, offering a specialized approach to home furnishing and design.
Opened on August 29, the facility has transformed the former Jysk furniture store on Stirling Road into a dedicated space for comprehensive kitchen and storage planning services. The grand opening ceremony was a notable event, attended by key local figures including Luke Charters MP and the Lord Mayor of York, Cllr Martin Rowley BEM, underscoring the community’s enthusiasm for this new addition.
Unlike traditional expansive IKEA warehouses, the Plan and Order Point concept focuses on personalized consultations. Expert teams are on hand to guide customers through the intricate process of creating bespoke IKEA setups, from conceptual design to practical application, ensuring a tailored experience for every home improvement project.
Spanning 380 square meters, the compact yet efficiently designed York shop employs 12 dedicated staff members, ready to assist with a range of design needs. Furthermore, the facility boasts a substantial warehouse capacity, capable of holding up to 150 click and collect orders, streamlining the shopping experience for convenience-focused customers.
Inside, visitors can explore over 20 meticulously curated kitchen and bedroom setups, offering tangible inspiration and practical examples of IKEA’s diverse product range. These displays, along with a selection of smaller in-store items, have been specifically tailored to resonate with the unique preferences and purchasing habits of the York market.
Logistical efficiency is a cornerstone of the new York outlet, with stock deliveries routed directly from IKEA’s main Leeds warehouse. This streamlined supply chain ensures quick item availability and easy pickup, further enhanced by the store’s prime location, chosen for its excellent accessibility from the ring road and convenient internal layout.
Conor Doherty, IKEA market manager, expressed immense enthusiasm for the York opening, emphasizing the store’s role as an inspiring space for exploring unique kitchen ranges and smart storage solutions. This sentiment was echoed by local dignitaries, who highlighted the positive economic impact and job creation for the York community.
Cllr Rowley lauded the new Plan and Order Point as a welcome economic boost for the local economy and high street, while Luke Charters MP celebrated its role in making home design more accessible for households and bringing valuable job opportunities to York. The store’s operating hours are Monday to Friday 9am – 8pm, Saturday 9am – 6pm, and Sundays 11am – 5pm, providing ample opportunity for residents to explore its offerings.
