The Baltimore Sun proudly introduces its inaugural fall 2025 intern class, launching an innovative, newly created year-round program designed to cultivate the next generation of talented journalists. This diverse cohort comprises exceptional college students and recent graduates poised to make significant contributions across news, sports, multimedia reporting, photojournalism, and social media, bringing fresh perspectives to the Baltimore community and beyond.
Among the returning talents is Sam, a senior at the University of Maryland, College Park, who rejoins The Sun as a sports intern after a successful summer 2025 stint. As a seasoned sports editor at *The Diamondback*, the student-run newspaper, Sam has extensively covered the Orioles, Ravens, and Maryland athletics, authoring over 35 articles and producing numerous social media videos. His distinguished career includes receiving a scholarship from the Associated Press Sports Editors and covering high-profile events like Super Bowl 59 and the NBA’s expansion into Africa, showcasing his broad journalistic prowess.
Michael, another senior from the University of Maryland, College Park, also serves as a dedicated sports editor and football beat reporter at *The Diamondback*. With experience covering high school sports and community issues for *The Herald-Mail* in Hagerstown, Michael is driven by a passion for uncovering the human narratives woven into games and exploring how sports resonate within broader communities. He eagerly anticipates channeling his storytelling zeal to engage the Baltimore community as a sports intern.
Journey, a junior at Morgan State University pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in multimedia journalism within the Honors College, brings a unique perspective as a Las Vegas native now calling Baltimore home. Her prior experience at *The Marc Steiner Show* involved assisting with scriptwriting and production. At Morgan State, she contributes to *The Spokesman*, her university’s newspaper, covering critical public safety and housing issues, and co-produces *Morgan News*. Most recently, she gained valuable experience as a media intern for the *NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund*, further honing her skills as a news intern.
Abby, a senior at the University of Maryland specializing in journalism with a Spanish minor, is deeply passionate about video journalism, particularly focusing on human interest and arts and entertainment stories. As the video desk editor for *The Diamondback* and a video reporter for the *Capital News Service*, she has created compelling long-form news packages. Her summer experience as a videographer and video editor for *The Press of Atlantic City* prepared her for her role as The Sun’s social media intern, where she looks forward to exploring Charm City and connecting with its vibrant pulse.
A recent graduate of Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, the photography intern explores themes of family, culture, and belonging through personal visual work. As a visual journalist, he has comprehensively covered local politics, arts, and culture across Central New York, emphasizing a deep commitment to respectful photographic representation. His roles as a staff photographer for *The Daily Orange* and lead visual producer for *The NewsHouse* at Syracuse University, combined with his background in human geography and environmental sustainability, underscore his holistic approach to capturing stories through the lens.
Marissa, who graduated in May from the University of Maryland, College Park, with dual degrees in journalism and psychology, is a Howard County native with a keen interest in local news, focusing on education and state politics. During her college tenure, she served as assistant bureau chief, covering state politics and contributing to legislative developments. Her work as a staff writer and copy editor for *Stories Beneath the Shell* highlighted community events and local voices. Her summer internship at *USA Today* provided experience in national news reporting, making her an invaluable addition as a news intern this fall.

Ela, a born-and-raised Marylander, is a senior at the University of Maryland, College Park, pursuing a dual degree in journalism and Philosophy, Political Science, and Economics (PPE). As the deputy engagement editor for The Diamondback, and with prior work for The Baltimore Banner and the Capital News Service, Ela brings a rich understanding of local media. Her previous internships include The Frederick News-Post and a Dow Jones News Fund internship at The Wall Street Journal, solidifying her experience and eagerness to contribute significantly as a news intern in Baltimore.
