Mukesh Ambani, the visionary chairman of Reliance Industries, has ignited a nationwide ambition, unveiling an expansive blueprint to construct India’s AI backbone through a newly formed subsidiary. This monumental initiative commences with pivotal strategic alliances, notably with global technology titans Google Cloud and Meta, signaling a transformative era for the country’s digital landscape.

During the company’s 48th annual general meeting, Ambani officially launched Reliance Intelligence, a dedicated subsidiary poised to spearhead the creation of a national-scale AI infrastructure. This venture is designed to provide comprehensive enterprise tools and services across a diverse array of sectors, aiming to position India as a formidable contender in the global artificial intelligence race, a domain historically dominated by technological superpowers.

A cornerstone of this ambitious undertaking is Reliance’s significant partnership with Google Cloud. Together, they are embarking on developing a robust, dedicated Google Cloud India AI infrastructure. This high-performance network will initially be anchored by a major data center situated in Jamnagar, a strategic location in the western state of Gujarat, promising unprecedented computational power for Indian enterprises.

Further augmenting its strategic portfolio, Reliance has also established a joint venture with Meta, another crucial tech investor. This collaboration involves a combined investment of approximately $100 million, with a 70/30 ownership split, respectively. The primary goal is to build and scale advanced enterprise Meta AI solutions, catering to customers not only within India but also in select international markets, extending the reach of India’s technological prowess.

This joint venture will notably introduce Meta’s cutting-edge Llama-based enterprise AI platform-as-a-service. This powerful offering will empower businesses to customize, deploy, and meticulously manage generative AI models tailored for a myriad of use cases spanning critical functions such as sales, marketing, IT, customer service, and finance, thereby democratizing access to advanced AI capabilities.

The collaborative endeavor arrives just weeks after Meta’s internal restructuring of its AI ventures, a strategic move fueled by substantial investments in top-tier AI talent. This timely partnership underscores the increasing global demand for scalable AI solutions and Meta’s commitment to real-world applications of its foundational models, as articulated by CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

Beyond these foundational partnerships, Mukesh Ambani articulated broader aspirations for Reliance Jio Platforms, intending to expand its flagship subsidiary into international markets. Further demonstrating the company’s aggressive growth trajectory, Jio aims to file for an initial public offering (IPO) in the first half of 2026, marking another significant milestone in its expansion.

Adding to its strategic ventures, Reliance is also actively pursuing a partnership with OpenAI, a leading force in generative AI. While specific details are forthcoming, an anticipated visit by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman to India next month is expected to solidify the terms of this collaboration, potentially adding another layer to India’s burgeoning AI ecosystem.

Finally, Reliance showcased its innovative AI-powered smart glasses, JioFrames, as a direct competitor to existing augmented reality eyewear. The company is also seamlessly integrating AI into its immensely popular streaming platform, JioHotstar, which boasts over 600 million users. New AI features include the “Riya” voice assistant and sophisticated content translation into various Indian languages, leveraging advanced AI-voice cloning and lip-syncing technologies, demonstrating a holistic approach to AI adoption across its diverse business units.
