Beyond external exhibitors, Hanford Mills’ dedicated staff and skilled volunteers will showcase and operate select pieces from the museum’s extensive internal collection. Among the highlights is a meticulously preserved 1947 Ford truck, providing a tangible connection to the past and demonstrating the practical applications of these magnificent machines in their prime.

For those passionate about preserving and sharing mechanical history, the museum extends an invitation to exhibit at “Metal at the Mill.” Prospective participants are encouraged to visit the event’s dedicated webpage or contact Liz Brown directly for detailed information on how to become part of this celebrated showcase of antique machinery and innovation.

As the “Metal at the Mill” event kicks off the latter half of its 2025 season, which runs until October 15th, Hanford Mills Museum continues to offer a rich tapestry of educational workshops designed to engage and enlighten. These hands-on programs provide unique opportunities to learn traditional crafts and historical practices, extending the museum’s mission beyond static displays.

A notable offering is the coopering workshop, scheduled for September 20th and 21st, led by the experienced artisan Bob Allers. Participants will delve into the essential techniques of this ancient craft, culminating in the construction of their own wooden bucket or mug. With limited spots available, this immersive workshop provides a rare chance to master a skill integral to historical self-sufficiency, with registration at $150 for members and $175 for non-members.

Further enriching the season’s programming is a unique woodfired cookstove workshop on October 4th, guided by Pamela Cooley. This culinary journey transports attendees back to 1900s Delaware County, where they will prepare and savor recipes from “The Bovina Cook Book: A Collection of Choice Recipes.” Designed for participants aged 15 and older, this authentic experience costs $55 for members and $70 for non-members, offering a taste of history.

The Hanford Mills Museum is conveniently located at 51 County Highway 12 in East Meredith, situated at the intersection of Delaware County Routes 10 and 12, just 10 miles from Oneonta and 15 miles from Delhi.
