As Sylvain Cazard, Broadcom’s president for Asia-Pacific and Japan, articulated during VMware Explore 2025, clients are demonstrating a renewed eagerness to strengthen their on-premise data centers, with private cloud emerging as a critical path forward for optimizing enterprise operations.
The tangible embrace of private cloud solutions is evident across the diverse Asia-Pacific region. Cazard specifically highlighted dynamic markets such as Japan, where enterprises are actively opting for sophisticated private cloud deployments, and India, where major institutions like banks and local governments are diligently constructing advanced new platforms built upon VCF. Noteworthy regional customer success stories include the State Bank of India, NTT Docomo in Japan, Metrobank in the Philippines, alongside numerous government and industrial entities spanning Korea and Australia.
Recognizing the varied stages of cloud maturity among its extensive customer base, VMware is committed to facilitating a smooth and flexible transition to private cloud with VCF. According to Sachin Shridhar, Broadcom’s head of cloud transformation office in Asia-Pacific and Japan, VCF offers highly adaptable adoption pathways. This flexibility means that if immediate changes to storage infrastructure are not feasible, organizations can still leverage other transformative aspects of VCF, such as advanced networking or new firewall and load balancing capabilities, to incrementally modernize their environments.
To further support this transition, Broadcom provides a comprehensive suite of resources, including detailed assessment tools, expert professional services, valuable service credits, and extensive partner training programs. These initiatives are meticulously designed to empower organizations to migrate to VCF at a pace that aligns perfectly with their unique operational requirements and strategic objectives, minimizing disruption and maximizing efficiency.
Broadcom executives also meticulously clarified VMware’s evolving definition of private cloud, moving beyond the traditional notion of disparate on-premise and public cloud operating models often associated with hybrid cloud. Cazard emphasized a unified vision: “Our vision is you have one operating model, which is VCF.” Shridhar elaborated, defining VMware’s private cloud as the consistent application of an enterprise’s corporate policies, stringent compliance regulations, and standardized operating procedures across a unified VCF stack, irrespective of the physical location of the underlying hardware.
This innovative approach significantly diminishes the inherent complexity and potential for error typically associated with managing heterogeneous environments. Shridhar underscored that this private cloud paradigm does not preclude the use of public cloud providers like AWS as underlying infrastructure where strategically beneficial, citing recent announcements of enhanced integrations as prime examples of Broadcom’s commitment to creating a truly consistent operational experience across all deployment venues. The strategic shift to a subscription licensing model also aligns VMware with contemporary industry practices, addressing a “significant missed opportunity” for those clinging to less responsive perpetual licenses.
As an integral part of its go-to-market strategy for VCF, Broadcom has also meticulously refined VMware’s partner program. The previous broader VMware Cloud Service Provider program has been discontinued, transitioning to an invitation-only model later this year. Cazard explained that this change will cultivate a critical mass of highly invested partners fully committed to VCF, ensuring that customers operating VCF within their own data centers can seamlessly extend their workloads into sovereign cloud environments managed by certified partners, due to complete compatibility in both technology and licensing frameworks.
